If you’d like to join the PROGRESS program at any level other than KITTEN HEELS, you’ll need to complete placement.

Essence does not require placement, and is self-assessed. Luminary: Company program requires an audition.

DO I NEED PLACEMENT?

If you’re looking to join PROGRESS for the first time as an intermediate/advanced dancer, then likely yes!

All dancers are automatically eligible to join the KITTEN HEELS cohort, and do not need to receive placement.

After two terms of dancing with KITTEN HEELS, dancers are eligible (but not required) to move into LACE-UPS.This is because after two terms of training, their understanding, vocabulary, and comfort will naturally advance. Therefore, LACE-UPS is designed for dancers with Luminesque experience (and thus not meant for new dancers).

If a dancer wishes to join PROGRESS at - or change cohorts into - Pumps or Stilettos, they need placement.

HOW TO DO A PLACEMENT

Placement can be done in-person at a free Placement Class, or via a Video Placement assessment. Dancers may not “self-assess” into any level except Kitten Heels, or into Lace-Ups after completing two terms of Kitten Heels. (If you’d like to join a performance program that doesn’t require placement, we recommend Essence).

ABOUT PLACEMENT CLASSES

Placement classes are where our Placement Experts can help you find the best PROGRESS level for you and your goals. You’ll start with filling out a short card with your goals and ideal class. Then, get moving with a warmup before learning a piece of choreography that gets progressively more difficult as you go. Then, we’ll have small groups run the choreography while our experts watch so they can provide you a personalized plan for the best course for you. Unlike an audition, EVERYONE who attends a Placement class will be accepted into the PROGRESS program, they'll just receive different level recommendations.

Reducing performance anxiety and creating an enjoyable experience are big priorities for us, so if a Placement Class sounds needlessly stressful - try a video placement instead! You can also contact us to discuss options.

ABOUT VIDEO PLACEMENT

Video Placement is an alternative to in-person Placement classes, where you complete a series of exercises on video that our team will use to assess your dance capacity. View the instructions for video placements here.

POST-PLACEMENT RESULTS

You’ll receive our recommendations via an automated email once our team has reached a decision.
