Presenting the Luminesque Company 2023/2024 Showcase: The Ways We Bloom 🌷

Magic occurs when a seed finds its roots in just the right soil. Even more miraculous is the strength of a kaleidoscopic ecosystem, where diverse beings bloom bolder together. Here, amidst the whispers of leaves and gentle sway of branches, our harmonious garden unfolds, captivating the senses and stirring the soul. The Ways We Bloom is a celebration of all the ways co-created community holds, nourishes, and tends to us and our dreams.

Come explore the exuberant realm of Company Class 23/24 - where we're nourished by those who hold us, thrive in collaboration, and experience growth without bounds. We invite you to witness the blossoming of our emerging artists through powerful ensemble performances and intimate solos. Each piece is a testament to their collective creativity, and the artistry they’ve nurtured throughout their season.

WE WISH TO ACKNOWLEDGE...

that we gratefully rehearsed for and are performing this show on the unceded territories of the Coast Salish Peoples, including the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam), Skwxwú7mesh (Squamish), Stó:lō and Səl̓ílwətaʔ/Selilwitulh (Tsleil-Waututh) Nations, as well as the traditional territories of the Lkwungen (Lekwungen) speaking peoples, also known today as the Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ First Nations. We are committed to working to decolonize our business, and acknowledging the land upon which we create is one of many steps.

WE ALSO WISH TO ACKNOWLEDGE... that dance is a part of culture, which involves and intersects with many histories, geographies, lived experiences, and generational inequalities. We dance to tell stories, which makes our modality a meaningful form of art that warrants respect and acknowledgment of its origins. Heels dance as an art is inspired and informed by cultures from the African diaspora, Latin American cultures, LGBTQ+ community culture, kink culture, and the sex work profession. As participants in and appreciators of these cultures, we are committed to dismantling the systems that seek to oppress them. We do so by examining our own biases, integrating diverse perspectives, investing back into these communities, continually educating ourselves, and creating a culture of accountability with our team, students, and advisors. We believe that by encouraging underrepresented voices and bodies to claim their space onstage and onscreen, we're contributing to building a world where everyone can shine.

Touching the performers without explicit consent is strictly prohibited.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Will you send me a printed ticket? Do I have to bring a printed ticket to the event?

NO, you simply say the name of the ticket buyer at the door (guest list).

Are there minimum age requirements for this event?

No, this show is all ages, but it does contain adult themes, so viewer discretion is advised.

What can/can’t I bring into the event?

Personal use of cellphones and cameras is allowed but please refrain from using flash. Remain respectful of the personal space and safety of other audience members and dancers at all times. No outside food or beverages are permitted.

Can I take and post photos of the show?

Yes, please just tag @luminesquedance when you do so! Any posts that are unkind or unsupportive will be asked to be taken down.

How do I contact the organizer?

Email glow@luminesquedance.com and allow 72 business hours for a response.

What is the refund policy?

We are unable to offer refunds for this show, so please check payment details carefully and if you no longer wish to attend, please sell your ticket to another patron and have them say your name at the door for entry.

ACCESSIBILITY

The Faris at Scotiabank Dance Centre is wheelchair accessible (elevator) and the Eagle Eye Community Theatre is wheelchair accessible (single level). Limited space is available in the front row for folks in wheelchairs however, so please contact glow@luminesquedance.com as soon as you purchase tickets so we can ensure there is adequate room for you to enjoy the show!
