ABOUT OUR METRO VANCOUVER LOCATIONS

VANCOUVER classes take place at Glow Studios Vancouver (1026 Davie St, Suite 400, Buzzer 200), which is home to our LumiHQ! Glow Studios Vancouver is a gorgeous, spacious, open-concept studio space on the top floor of the Celebrities Nightclub building. Buzz #200 to be let into the building, and then take the stairs up to the top floor to access the studio (we apologize this is not an accessible venue). Limited free parking is located on Burnaby street, but we suggest taking transit or parking in a paid lot.

NORTH VANCOUVER classes take place at The Space at The Shipyards (#224 - 123 Carrie Cates Court), located in Lonsdale Quay. The Lonsdale Quay closes and the ground floor entrances become locked at 7:00PM. To Enter the building to get to class you enter through the elevators address - #156 - 123 Carrie Cates Ct (elevator entrance faces Shipyards coffee), and press Floor 2. As soon as you exit the elevator on the 2nd floor you’ll see the doors to the studio (pink decals on glass). Plenty of parking is available.

about our drop-in dance classes

Our weekly HEELS TECH DROP-INS are focused on developing and enhancing stamina, strength, dance technique, performance skills, and choreography pickup in the Luminesque™ Heels dance style. Everyone, regardless of dance experience, is welcome.

what is a “heels tech” class?

Heels Tech classes safely challenge you to develop and expand your heels dance technique. Our certified Heels teachers cultivate a supportive, inclusive environment where you feel safer to step outside your comfort zone and expand your capabilities as a heels dance technician.

Each class, you’ll dive in with our strength and mobility building warm-up, expand your repertoire of Heels dance skills, and challenge yourself to execute heels dance technique in a particular focus area (see Special Instructions when booking for the focus of a given class).

These classes may also occasionally involve workshopping a piece of choreography. However, unless the class is listed as a Choreography focused class - which is designed to improve choreo pickup and performance - it is not guaranteed that there will be a choreography component to every Heels Tech class.

what is the difficulty level?

Heels Tech classes are either FOUNDATIONS classes or FINESSE classes.

Foundations build heels dance foundational skills, and are more beginner-friendly.

Finesse classes enhance or expand upon an existing Heels dance foundation, and so will be more challenging for dancers with Heels experience.

Everyone is welcome to attend any drop-in class, and will benefit from the training regardless of level, but may be more or less out of their depth depending on the class and their previous experience with Heels.

what is a “class focus”

While all Heels Tech classes involve some consistent key components, each class also focuses on a particular skill for your toolkit.

We tend to cluster classes with similar focuses on our schedule. This is because dancers benefit from working on the same focus for multiple weeks. However, Heels Tech classes are NOT progressives, and you can join in at any time without missing anything.

Examples of class focuses are:
HEELS SKILLS (learning/expanding your toolkit of Heels movement)
FLOORWORK LAB (learning/enhancing dance skills on the floor)
TURNING LAB (learning/enhancing your ability to turn in heels)
SIGNATURE STYLE (exploring a particular teacher’s special skills)
CHOREOGRAPHY (learning/improving choreo pickup + execution)

how to make the most of class

ARRIVE ON TIME

Please endeavour to arrive at the studio a few minutes before your class begins. All our classes begin with a thoughtful warm up intended to set you up for a successful class, and missing warm up can put you at higher risk of injury.

If you are running a few minutes late, enter the room quietly and be sure to prepare your body and mind adequately before joining the class. If another class is in session before your drop-in, we ask that you wait outside the studio door or in the waiting room until a teacher invites you in.

WHAT TO WEAR

SHOES
Heels are not necessary to participate in our classes, but as they are Heels Tech focused, they're highly encouraged.

If at any point in class you feel the desire to stop dancing in heels, feel free to take them off! You are welcome to take class barefoot, in socks, or in clean indoor sneakers (non-marking).

If you are wearing heels, please only wear shoes with non-marking soles, and ensure stiletto heels are sealed/capped so as to not scratch the floors.

EVERYTHING ELSE
We recommend bringing long pants and/or knee pad options to class to aid with potential floorwork. Otherwise, just dress in what makes you feel free to move (so long as all the important bits are securely tucked away).

NOTE ABOUT FILMING

Please assume that Luminesque Heels Tech classes are no-media classes. Please refrain from filming for social media use unless your teacher explicitly invites the class to do so (and, you must receive consent to post from any other dancers appearing in your video prior to posting).

Teachers may allow filming of class for dancers personal reflection, but again, please ask your teacher for their consent.

Luminesque holds these boundaries to create safer spaces of learning, and to keep students focused on their technical progression in class.

CANCELLING BOOKINGS

We keep class sizes limited to maintain a productive learning environment with space for personal feedback. If you aren’t able to attend your class, please cancel as soon as you know, to make room for other students to attend.

pricing

Your first Heels Tech class is always FREE! While you still need to preregister for insurance/liability purposes, make sure you select “ONE FREE LUMINESQUE CLASS” as your pricing option when booking.

After your first class, one-off class bookings are $25 + GST for a 60-minute class. We also occasionally run drop-in classes by donation to raise funds for a particular charity. The price is always listed on the class when you go to book it.

You can save by buying more drop-in classes - either with a 5 classes for $99 pass or a 10 classes for $189 punch pass. These passes expire after one year of purchasing by default, so make sure to use them up within the year you bought them!

For a limited time, we’re offering dancers who have never taken a Luminesque class before the option to buy 3 drop-in classes for the price of 2 ($50 + GST). When booking, make sure to select “New to Lumi 3 Class Drop-In Pass” as your pricing option.
